Fragile splitting nails?

Up until a few months ago, I wore acrylic nails for about 10 years. I am now pregnant with my first child and I had the nails taken off because of the dust from the salon. But now I am left with stubby painful splitting nails that crack and bleed all the time. I have tried Sally Hansen Hard as Nails but they just don't seem to want to grow. I've been wearing band aids on a few of my fingertips because they are so bad. I work in a professional job and I am so embared by my nails. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do? Please don't suggest more vitamins because I am already taking a strong prenatal. Thanks.
